We are getting ready to release the trial version of CaT. Within 5 month in 5 countries we have been meeting students, career counsellors, teachers, coaches to update them about the progress.

Phase 1 – Model of predispositions and leading competences for professions

– Description of competences and predispositions, important for professions-analysis of professions and qualifications

– Categorizing and ranging predispositions and competences into groups for diagnostic modules

– Analysis of qualifications gained during education and necessary certificates, permissions

– Description of predispositions, competences, permissions measured in each module

– Experts reviews on competences classification necessary for realizing professional tasks in each profession

Phase 2 – Development of modular system for diagnosis, analysis and education guidance for career

– Description of indicators for measurement with the use of diagnostic tools necessary for measuring each module

– Description of hierarchical structure of modules realization

– Creation of the set of tests with regards to examined areas of competences, which enables measurement of intensity of examined features and predispositions

– Generating set of questions in 8 groups and detailed dimensions (with regards to definition and spheres analysis)

– Verifying accuracy of questions by competent judges (content analysis)

– Selection of 10-15 diagnostic questions for each area, for each tool in each module

– Experts reviews

– Advises module – preparation of content informing about suggested professional areas, presenting strong and weak points of examined person

– Development of handbook for the diagnostic tool

– Development of personal portfolio for participant career

– Development of methodic guidebook for job career counselor, working using the modular system

– Graphical design of methodic materials

Phase 3 – Preparation of an on-line version of the tool

Phase 4 – Pilot testing

– Purchase of standardized tools, that will help to assess accuracy of the tool (in particular areas)

– Pilot research

– Reports from statistical data analysis from pilot testing for each module

– Modification of diagnostic tool and model functioning, depending on generated results and help of counselor

Phase 5 – Psychometric validation and tool sstandardisation

– Final validation of diagnostic tool and model functioning

– Development of report from statistical data analysis from final research for each module

– Development of report from tool validation – basing on examining representative group

– Final version of the tool after validation

Most people just look around and choose an occupation, which is popular within their family or social environment or a job that is accessible and tested over generations. It is then, sometimes trouble begins…

Why is it so important to plan our career? How do we fit our needs with the job market requirements?

Let’s look at what main factors go into choosing a career?

  1. Your Personality: are you a calm person or outgoing? Perhaps your relatives enjoy being librarians but if you have quite a temper, the slow work environment will make you implore.
  2. Your Interests: is your family business orientated? If you understand poetry better than stock charts, don’t follow your family’s advice.
  3. Your Values: your family may think that the social service is a common value and everybody dreams being a local GP. Meanwhile, you instead secretly admire plastic surgeons and their posh cars…
  4. Your Skills: your parents advise you to follow a career in finance. Yes, you are great with numbers but even better at combining pieces of clothing together in a way nobody can miss you in the street. And you just love fashion
  5. Your Location and Background: everybody knows that Oxford is a cradle for a literary genius. However, J.K. Rowling never graduated at Oxford, furthermore she was a single mother on benefits. Why should you give up your dreams if you weren’t born privileged?
  6. Your Contacts: once you have an idea of what would you like to do, it’s worth revising your family’s address book. Perhaps the unknown Uncle your mother sends a Christmas card to every year is a chemistry geek, and your biggest wish is to have a career in the pharmaceutical industry?
  7. Your Qualifications: Is a GSCE enough to become an accountant? Is it necessary to pass A Levels if you think about having a military career?

There are many questions we must ask ourselves before we choose a career path, which fulfills all of our needs. In the adult life we spend more time at work than socializing with friends. It is worth making the smarter choice.

The description of knowledge and skills, necessary for realising professional tasks in each profession is ready now!

200 professions from 7 groups of professions:

  • administration and services;
  • structural;
  • electric and electronic;
  • mechanics and mining-metallurgy;
  • agriculture and forestry with environment protection;
  • tourism and gastronomy;
  • medical and social,

Now our researchers are working on Modular system for guidance of career. They have elaborated interdependencies and now are working on set of tests and set of questions which will be used in the tool.

  1. Hierarchism –questions are selected, depending on answer given to previous question. This means that not all respondents will “answer” to all questions.
  2. Layers – tools, that already exists on the market, have only one layer, there are no hierarchic, multi-layer tools on current market. CaT consists in 8 layers (modules).
  3. Intuitive character – It contains impulses that have situational character – person watches scenes and react for those impulses (next questions and situations are picked, depending on the reaction for previous impulses).
  4. Practical tips – the last, 8th module enable to add qualifications and permissions, required in each country, that need to be checked for persons that want to work in this country.
